Projects » Paint Creek Project
Paint Creek is the stream we have adopted as our own to maintain and improve. As you can see from this photo, it is a project that has been ongoing for many years. This photo was recently unearthed by a member, and no one even remembers the date on it, though they do remember the work involved!

We were invited by the Paint Creek Trail Commission to clear out a logjam under one of the Paint Creek Trail Bridges by Dutton Road. Working with them, there about 20 volunteers clearing out the mess in about 3 hours time. Along with the log jam, we had a bail of fencing that we found as well.

The stream restoration was completed in the summer of 2001. See coverage by The Detroit News (more>>). The project involved adding gravel bed and trout cover in the stream at the downtown Lake Orion Park. A 19" Brown Trout was reportedly taken in this stretch in the spring of 2002.
One of the cleanups was done in December 1999. A bright, sunny, but cold day. And it is amazing what you find in streams that shouldn't be there!

These pictures are from phase 1 finished in November 2000.
